They produced a great defensive effort to overcome the absences of fullback Freddie Walker, stand off and captain Shaun Garrod, prop Iain Davies and long term injured Byron Smith and Sean McCormack.

Captain for the day George Ambler led the way as the Chevinedge men hit back from a narrow reversal at Pilkington Recs the previous Saturday.

Centre Ross White strolled over after four minutes to give them the ideal start, Gareth Blackburn converting and adding an 11th minute penalty.

When replacement Ben Hinsley went in by the flag, Siddal were sitting pretty at 12-0 up after 19 minutes.

However, fifth-placed Lock Lane had won handsomely at Wigan St Patrick’s the previous week and were in no mood to roll over.

They put their first points on the board through skipper and prop Chris Siddens seconds before the break, stand off Aaron Dobek adding the goal.

Siddal’s 12-point advantage was restored three minutes after half time when hooker Craig Sanderson touched down and winger Blackburn added the extras.

Centre Lewis Price kept Lane in the hunt with an unconverted try to make it 18-10 after 64 minutes but home replacement Jack Georgiou landed the knockout blow with 11 minutes left, Blackburn adding his fourth goal.

Siddal’s top of the table rivals won, Leigh Miners Rangers by 24-12 at home to Egremont and Wath brow Hornets by 32-30 at home to Pilkington Recs.

Gareth Greenwood’s side are next in action away to bottom team York Acorn on June 25.

Elland are two points adrift at the bottom of Division One after losing yesterday’s battle of the bottom two by 30-12 at home to Millom.

After a Saturday off, their next game is at Skirlaugh.
