United surrender two-goal lead

Woodhouse United bowed out of the Halifax FA Sunday Cup, beaten 4-2 after extra time by Halifax Sunday League middle-section outfit Oddfellows.

United had been optimistic of going through, with home advantage, and the Rochdale Sunday League side dominated the first half.

They should have taken the lead when Callum Hallinan rounded Peter Jennings in the Oddfellows goal but he made a meal of trying to complete the job.

Woodhouse took the lead shortly after through Hallinan and only good goalkeeping from Jennings kept the score to 1-0 at half time.

Oddfellows were much improved after the break and had plenty of chances but went two down when Woodhouse broke quickly and Joe Whitham scored to double the lead.

Oddfellows never gave in and two Chris Swaine goals forced the game into extra time.

The visitors were easily the better team from then on. In the second half of extra time Swaine completed his hat trick and a Matthew Crouch penalty after Chris Keen had been brought down by a clumsy challenge from Woodhouse centre half Chris Ford completed the scoring.

JACKS House are facing a prolonged period of inactivity.

Their Rochdale Online Alliance Division One game at home to leaders Wardle seconds was an early casualty on Saturday due to a waterlogged pitch.

Jacks House have no fixture this weekend and must instead look ahead to a home meeting with Fothergill and Whittle seconds - opponents they have already beaten twice this season - on Saturday, December 1.
