Alasdair and Sarah Pedley of East Pennine Orienteers have made it a remarkable family double by being selected for England.

They will compete against teams from France, Belgium and Holland in Surrey in February.

Three selection races attracted top juniors from across the country to compete for three places in each age group.

Sarah set the standard by winning the W14 class at the first event in Formby near Southport.

Pendle Forest’s Jack Cryer, from Walsden, was fourth in M16 with Alasdair four seconds behind in fifth.

At the second race in Norfolk it was a Pedley double, both Calder High students winning their classes, whilst Halifax’s Adam Thorpe kept his hope’s alive with a fifth in M14.

In the final race in Berkshire, Alasdair made sure of selection with third place but Jack’s sixth in M16 and Adam’s fifth in M14 proved not quite enough for them to make the team.

The Pedleys were following up strong performances at the National Junior Inter Regional Championships in the Lake District in the autumn.

Sarah was Yorkshire’s first W14 finisher in ninth and Alasdair was 13th in M16.
