The crematorium at Oakworth last week was full to overflowing with relatives and friends in an emotional send off for Dave Fisher (50) the extremely popular and former Captain at Hebden Bridge Golf Club.
Many had to watch the service on a screen outside.
Funeral celebrant Chris Berry outlined ‘Fish’s’ early childhood interests and later family life with Annette, his partner of some 30 years.
His close friend Geoff Holmes also provided some light hearted anecdotal tales about his golfing exploits and selflessness and love for the golf club, not least all the hard work he did on behalf of the club, especially when he was seriously ill last year when Club Captain.
He will be greatly missed by all who knew him and would have been thrilled that the majority of those attending the service went on to the wake at the golf club to toast his memory and boost funds through increased bar takings.
Hebden Bridge GC’s Henry Butterworth finished runner-up in the Halifax, Huddersfield Union junior stroke play championship at Outlane.
He shot 74 at Outlane to finish one shot behind Meltham’s Tom Hunt with holder Elliot Lister third after a 75.
