Courtney Beier led her rivals a merry dance in the year four cross county race at the Winter School Games at Leeds Metropolitan University.

The nine-year-old Cornholme J & I School pupil from Lydgate, Todmorden, beat rivals from other West Yorkshire Schools in the 1000-metre event.

Courtney was completing a hat-trick of wins, having earlier triumphed in the Todmorden schools’ event at Centre Vale Park and then the Halifax schools’ competition.

A former member of Todmorden Harriers, she was described as a “full of energy kid” from Julian Pickering at Cornholme J & I.
