Jess Leyden has been handed the key role of stroke for the Great Britain senior quad for the European Championships in Poznan, Poland at the weekend.
That is a fine achievement for the Todmorden rower, given that she only turned 20 in February.
The event will be televised and Jess, a member of Hollingworth Lake Rowing Club, is expected to be in action at 11.30am on Saturday.
The rower in the stroke seat, closest to the stern of the boat, has the most important position.
That is because he or she sets the stroke rate and rhythm for the rest of the crew to follow.
