Over 100 youngsters compete in swimming galas

MORE than 100 children from Todmorden, Hebden Bridge and surrounding areas took part in Todmorden Amateur Swimming Club’s Annual Junior and Senior Galas at Todmorden Sports Centre.

Over the two evening galas 12 club records were smashed by youngsters from four to 18 years old, swimming widths and lengths.

The event ended with the children organising their own fun team relays.

Fourteen local boys and girls swam a width for the first time and two children swam a whole length for the first time, for which they will all receive certificates.

The winners of each race will be awarded engraved trophies at the celebratory Disco and Gala Presentation on Saturday January 28.

Todmorden Amateur Swimming Club’s juniors group takes place on Wednesdays and Fridays.

It is run by fully-trained volunteers, who teach swimming from absolute beginner level to children capable of diving for bricks and even enjoying swimming in their pyjamas.

The Todmorden Amateur Swimming Club seniors group takes swimming to competition level, and meets on Monday evenings.

For the start of the 2012 competitive swimming season the club is looking for a local business to sponsor the swimming kit.

It has a range of premier sponsorship options available to coincide with the launch of a new website. Contact David Brown on 07976804458 for details.
