Plenty of valley racers at Worcester

Mytholmroyd’s Gerald Radley won Luddenden Foot Homing Society’s race from Worcester on Saturday having been runner-up the week before from Wollaston.

A total of 237 birds entered by 17 members were released at 10am into a light north wind and the winner, a two-year old cock, returned home to Brier Hey Lane in a time of two hours and 26 minutes having flown 105 miles.

Weather conditions, despite the head wind, were much better than had been predicted earlier in the week and a period of eight minutes covered the first 40 home.

Gerry and Sam Marley were second and fourth with Boland, Brown and Highley’s bird sandwiched in between.

Mick Coulter, the previous week’s winner was fifth and the Marley’s pool winning pigeon sixth. Bob Lee won the West section pools further down the result.

l TEN members of Todmorden Homing Society sent 212 birds to Worcester for last week’s race.

Liberated into a light north east wind turning fresh at the home end, it was always going to favour the shorter flyers, and so it proved with the best federation birds in the Rochdale area.

First of the Todmorden members to clock was Phil Williams, his winning bird flying 101 miles in two hours and 17 minutes for an average race speed of 44mph. He also took second place from Denis and Ryan Cullinane, flying to Halifax Road.
