HEBDEN Bridge Saints All Stars under-nines retained the trophy they won last year - but only after a penalty shoot-out..
They made a slow start to the group stage of the local tournament but improved towards the end and qualified for the semi-final against a strong Todmorden Borough Blacks team.
After a hard fought game it was All Stars who came out on top with two goals in each half of extra time from Nathan Marlor after crosses by Ben Hellowell and Harry Ashworth together with an excellent performance from all the team.
The final was against Todmorden Sports Centre who had played well throughout the tournament.
It was a close game with both sides having chances and not surprisingly it went to extra time.
All Stars scored first with Luke Latham heading home a long throw from George Gledhill whose throw-ins caused problems all through the tournament.
Sports Centre replied immediately with William Jones lobbing over the All Stars keeper.
The match ended 1-1 and a penalty shoot-out had to settle the game and trophy
All Stars came out on top scoring three penalties against Tod’s two with Harry Shapland scoring the winner and Lucas Newsome making two great saves.
