TWO of Old Town’s table tennis teams are riding high in their respective divisions in the Halifax and District Table Tennis Association.

Old Town Hares, promoted to Division 2 in 2010 are now third in that league.

The team of Cliff Edens, Justin Harris and Phil Ward have had consistent results and have an outside chance of further promotion.

Old Town Hounds are holding on to fourth spot in what is turning out to be a very competitive Division 3.

They are riding high mainly due to the two young additions to their squad, James Rickard and George Ward, each with an average of over 70 per cent and seasoned campaigner Rose Tipton at around 50 per cent..

Although Old Town’s other two teams, the Robins and the Hoods lie in the lower reaches of Division 3 they have turned around slow starts to the season.

Phil Dean, Tony Willmore, Dave Warburton and Martin Bates are all improving and this bodes well for the second half of the season.

The Old Town Club now has over 20 members enjoying a revival in popularity of what is one of the UK’s fastest growing sports.

The club welcomes new recruits whether they are beginners or players returning to the sport.

Practice nights are on Thursdays when coaching and advice is available. Anyone interested in playing at whatever standard should contact Derek Williamson on 01422 843088 or Rose Tipton on 01422 844124.
