PECKET Well’s father and son partnership of Charlie and Clive Roberts were the clear winners of Luddenden Foot Homing Society’s race from Tewkesbury last Saturday.
A total of 279 birds, entered by 16 members, were released early at 7.30am, into a Westerly wind, in a fruitless effort to avoid the rain showers anticipated to start after the race had finished but which in the event came early.
Despite the conditions the Roberts’ blue cock returned to its loft at Carr Head in a time of two hours and 34 minutes having flown just over 122 miles and with two minutes to spare over its nearest rivals.
Terry Divers just edged the Marleys out of second place with Mick Coulter recording yet another fourth place finish.
Charlie and Clive had not finished as their team is in a rich vein of form and their second bird won £26 pool and nomination money in seventh.
The winner also topped the Pennine Valleys Federation of eight clubs stretching from Skipton to Slaithwaite.
Next week’s knockout final will be between Geoff Wilson and this week’s winners.
The monthly meetings will start again on Monday September 5 at 8pm at the Black Lion, Luddenden Foot.
