TODMORDEN Golf Club’s Captain’s Drive-in was played on Saturday in dry weather but with a cold easterly wind blowing.

The winners of the competition were David Blake and Russell Waring with 43 points.

Second with 41 points were the evergreen Peter Bailey and Michael Shackleton and third were John Whitham and Glenn Duckworth with 39 points.

Twos winners were Michael Murray, Peter Bailey and Steve Packer.

There was also a competition to guess how long the captain’s drive would travel off the first tee. Captain, Gary Fisher was courageous and took a driver off the first tee watched by many members. He managed a commendable 210 yards into a strong wind, but then put his second out of bounds due to a very severe kick.

The winner was Ken Lambshead with exactly the right yardage.

Sunday saw the Lady Captain’s Drive-in, played in sunnier and warmer conditions but still with a cool wind.

Captain Janet Taylor supplied refreshments before and after the competition to more than 20 competitors.

The competition to guess the distance of the Lady Captain’s drive off the first tee was won by Debra Fisher with another exact guess of 169 yards.

Todmorden Golf Club now has the benefit of a PGA Pro - Mark McEvoy.
