Todmorden’s Hartley wins Luddenden competition

TODMORDEN Park Bowling Club’s John Hartley was the winner of the Arthur Crabtree Bowling Handicap at Luddenden Foot on Sunday.

On a brisk day the green was in excellent condition and there was some top class bowling.

In the first semi-final Hartley beat Mytholmroyd’s Norma Uttley 21 - 10, while the other semi was very close throughout with Craig Wilkins just pipping his fellow Crossroads player Phil Abderson 21 - 20.

In the final Hartley gave Wilkins three start and was soon 11 - 5 down, but then won the jack and bowled corner to corner with a run of 14 points.

Wilkkins came back with a seven break.

With the match poised at 19 - 18 to Hartley, Wilkins held the nearest wood, but it was pushed away by Hartley with his last delivery to win 21 - 18.

The prizes were presented by Richard Hargeaves, who thanked the Luddenden Foot club for hosting the competition.
