Valley birds fly from Falaise

SAM and Gerry Marley continued their winning ways by having the top two positions in Luddenden Foot Homing Society’s first channel race of the season from Falaise in Normandy last Saturday.

It was a beautiful morning in Falaise when 145 birds entered by 17 members were released at 7am into a light West wind to fly the 343 miles to Calderdale.

This contrasted sharply with the morning rain and mist at the home end but as predicted this had cleared by 2.15pm when the winner entered its loft.

Three minutes later its loft-mate took the runners-up spot beating Geoff and Michael Wilson’s bird by 30 seconds.

Nigel Poyser and Mark Smith took the final prize card in fourth.

Wally Lawson won the latest Knock-out competition, Leach Brothers pocketed £28 pool money and the Marleys took the nomination prize with the bird in second.
