WALSDEN Cricket Club open their season today (Sunday) without Sri Lankan professional Duminda Perera.
The club has been told he will be missing for the first two matches due to passport problems.
For those two games Walsden have drafted in Staffordshire bowler Will Purser to take his place.
Their Central Lancashire League opener will be away at Ashton followed by a home match on Easter Sunday against Oldham.
Early order batsman Matthew Dawson has been leading coaching and fitness training at the club.
The Cheshire player has joined Walsden as replacement for their record-breaking batsman James Rawlinson, who has left the club to be professional with Settle.
Walsden will be hoping that their crop of young players can make an impression this season in the league.
l Friday April 29 may be a big day for the Royal family, but it’s an even bigger day for Walsden’s young third XI.
Last season’s Royds Cup Final, which could not be played due to bad weather, has been rescheduled for the wedding day.
The match against Unsworth, which starts at 11am, is a repeat of the 2009 final when Unsworth won by only 27 runs.
