Woodhouse leap to fourth with two wins in a row

Woodhouse United 6

Roca Juniors 4

Rochdale Sunday League Division Two

Two wins in successive games propelled Woodhouse away from any relegation threat and into fourth spot in the league.

After a midweek win Woodhouse had a comfortable victory with Joe Whitham returning to top goal-scoring form with a hat trick.

Woodhouse raced into an early two-goal lead, Whitham hammering in his first before Jordan Walker struck with a well-taken free kick.

They relaxed and as in recent games gave away two sloppy goals before Whitham fired them ahead again just before half-time. Woodhouse were slowest out of the blocks for the second period and Roca equalised.

Whitham put them ahead again completing his hat trick only for them to give away another sloppy goal.

But it seemed to spur them to better things and man of the match Daniel Clarkson, who had been a constant threat throughout, fired in a long range shot. Gary Fish rounded things off for Woodhouse with a well taken free kick near the end.

It was a good confidence booster for Woodhouse after their midweek win over Mark Twain Nomads.

They won that game 2 - 1 with goals from Whitham and Oliver Wood.

l Division Three side Royal George won 5 - 0 at The Gallows. Johnny Sutcliffe got a hat trick and the other goals came from James Staroszczuk and Darrell Rhodes.
