From the Phantom of the Opera to the Bay City Rollers, get ready for a musical roller coaster with Todmorden Gang Show 2014.
While the traditional opening and closing numbers to the show are familiar touchstones each year they pack the occasional twist, packed in between are a range of musical showstoppers, dance routines and sketches, and the 85 cast members from all parts of the upper Calder Valley, rehearsing under producer and director Rowena Goldthorpe since January, are raring to go.
This year’s show is staged at the Hippodrome Theatre, Halifax Road, Todmorden, from May 7 to 10 inclusive (7.30pm, doors open 7pm).
Musical numbers this year include a tribute to Glasgow’s hosting of the 2014 Commonwealth Games, which takes in 500 Miles and the chance to relive Rollermania with a medley of Shang-A-Lang, Bye Bye Baby and more.
This year marks a hundred years since the Great War began and it is remembered in song by the Gang.
Other features include a vibrant dance routine based around the Disney classic Frozen, some great numbers from School Musicals, and a showstopping Phantom of the Opera routine.
Younger members, the Gang Show Juniors, will also have their own moment in the spotlight.
There will also be lots of bunting around - the Gang have produced plenty of this for the Tour De France celebrations.
AMary Poppins sequence is poignant for the team, dedicated to Shade School teacher and for ten years a member of the Gang’s wardrobe team, Sarah Platt, who died earlier this year.
This year’s charity message is for the Seize The Day charity, which supports children who have epilepsy and their families. It is another close personal link for the Gang, having helped three-year-old Isobel Simpson, the daughter of former Gang Show members.
Rowena said the Gang look forward to welcoming all to the show, but it will also be the swansong of her daughter and son-in-law, Anya and Jon Sayer, their last show before they emigrate to Australia.
Tickets are £8 for adults and £6 for children and concessionary rates, with all tickets £8 on the closing Saturday night.
They are available at Todmorden Information Centre, or online via www.ticketsource.co.uk, or by ringing 01706 810821.
