Mike's favourite play is an anniversary tribute

Thirty years ago the Studio Group at Actors' Workshop in Halifax presented '˜Small Craft Warnings' by Tennessee Williams as a '˜work in progress'.

The production celebrated the establishment of method acting classes as a fund-raising arm of the newly-formed youth theatre.

In 1996 the group returned to the play to mark the Studio Group’s 10th anniversary. And now it is returning to the Workshop as a tribute to founder Mike Ward for his 30 years as artistic director.

‘Small Craft Warnings’ is one of Williams’ lesser-known plays - but it is one of Mike’s personal favourites. Set in a bar on the Californian coast, the play centres on a group of lost souls who grapple with questions of existence and survival, easing their pain with alcohol.

“I have gathered an ensemble of experienced, talented actors and we are all busy grappling with the play!” says director Lottie Ward.

Small Craft Warnings runs from May 31 to June 4 at The Workshop, St James Street, Halifax. Performances start 7.30pm. To book call 01422 323688.
