One of the most respected names in folk music will be topping the bill in Steve Tilston’s occasional series of Trades Roots concerts.

At times a member of the Albion Band and Steeleye Span, in addition to performing solo or as a duo with folk giant Martin Carthy (as Plain Capers) and working with artists like Richard Thompson, John Kirkpatrick has been at the heart of the English folk scene for 40 years and plays Hebden Bridge Trades Club on Thursday, February 20 (doors open 8pm).

Mixing original material with traditional music he will headline a bill which also includes an opening few numbers from Steve (music starts around 8.30pm) who is also likely to perform a duet with John near the end - though he hasn’t played alongside him before.

“It’s our first Trades Roots date of the year. I’ll be working something up with John. I’ve been on the bill at festivals and he has recorded one of my songs, but I’ve never really worked with him before,” he said.
