Back Door Education project at Northlight Art Studios in Hebden Bridge is now attracting well-known artists from across Yorkshire to lead new practical visual arts and crafts workshops.
On May 26, Kevin Hickson will be running a sculpture workshop using willow and tissue paper. Kevin specialises in community arts projects, painting and sculpture. Here participants can design and make wonderful sculptural forms that can be used as lights or simply as sculptural objects. As well as for those keen on simply making sculpture, this workshop would be of great use for those wanting to broaden their skills for making structures for community arts projects, said Back Door co-ordinator Don Myers.
On June 16, Thomas Rimmington will be leading a portrait painting day workshop. Thomas is an exceptional portrait artist with a fast growing reputation and is much in demand in this specialist field.
The workshop will take students through the various stages of creating an ‘alla prima’ portrait. This will include making an umber under painting, establishing tone and drawing, and blocking colour amongst other processes.
Both workshops run from 10am to 4pm and cost £40 plus a small specialist material charge. Booking is essential as places are limited - telephone 01422 843519, or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
Don added: “This Summer term we are offering some refreshingly different workshops. As well as these top class workshops we are running a colour weekend, a mixed media weekend working from the life model, a townscape weekend and a puppet/automata making weekend.”
