A highlight of the show will be the launch of a major new book “Peter Brook, a Life in Painting, Vol. 2” by David Walker.

This is a richly illustrated coffee table book laying out Peter’s work from the his first sketches right up to 2009 when he died.

This limited edition tome contains over 200 colour illustrations and is a must for all Peter Brook fans.

Gallery owner Steven Lord said: “This new book shows Peter’s work from his early local townscapes, Pennine Farmhouses and woodland scenes right up to his most famous snow scenes.

“It is a limited collector’s item and should be on the bookshelf of all Peter Brook fans.”

Peter Brook, of course, lived for most of his life in Brighouse and was a well-known figure around the town.

He became one of the UK’s top landscape artists and his work features in the Tate collection in London.

Among his many admirers was the late James Mason.

And other famous film stars own his work too.

The Pennines were the inspiration for his paintings. But it was his unique style and characteristic humour that made him a firm favourite over the years.

Peter would often walk among local Pennine scenery photographing and sketching it as he went along.

His subjects would often include old abandoned farms surrounded by windswept landscapes that resonated with people who may have known them when they were younger.

Once his preparatory work was complete he would go back to his studio in Woodhouse Lane, Brighouse to create his masterpieces.

This exhibition will also feature up and coming Brighouse artist Matt Turner.

His style has a look of Peter Brook about it.

“I’m very excited about Matt Turner’s work,” says Steven.

”The way he captures Pennine snow scenes is very reminiscent of Peter’s work.”

“Matt has been inspired by the same views that Peter loved so much and it will be great to hear people’s reactions to his work.”
