If you shed a tear and laughed out loud at ‘Mamma Mia!’, it’s likely you’ll be beaming all over at feel-good musical ‘Sunshine on Leith’.
The stomping music of Scottish identical twin brothers Charlie and Craig Reid - better known as The Proclaimers - provides the backdrop to the PG-rated film, which opens at Hebden Bridge Picture House today (Friday, 7.45pm).
Jayne Horrocks is among the stars of this heartfelt musical based on a tight-knit family and their joys and heartaches.
It will also be screened on Saturday (7.45pm), Sunday (4.30pm and 7.45pm), Tuesday for the parent-and-baby showing at 10.30am and next Thursday at 10.30am.
Tonight there’s live music from Turin Brakes (doors 7pm, show starts at 8pm).
On Saturday and Sunday there’s another chance to have fun with Mowgli and friends in ‘The Jungle Book’ (U), at 1.30pm.
‘Prisoners’ (15), starring Hugh Jackman and Jake Gyllenhaal, is screened on Monday and Tuesday (7.30pm). Jackman plays a distraught dad who takes matters into his own hands when his six-year-old daughter and her friend go missing. Wednesday sees the RSC’s live broadcast of ‘Richard II’, (advisory 12A, doors 6pm) from Stratford-upon-Avon (see Page 29).
