Striking exhibition by Calder Valley artists

Calder Valley artists Stella Hill and Michael Acton have combined their work to produce an excellent exhibition called Instict at Todmorden’s Platform One gallery which is part of the town’s railway station (lasts until Aug 28).

Both artists paint many themes from landscapes, animals and nude studies along with prints and sculptural pieces and this exhibition is real cross section of all their work. Stella Hill produces some striking paintings like the one above using acrylic paint on Welsh slate, while Michael who chiefly paints in oil and acrylic achieves his unique style by applying the paint in many thin layers over rough textured ground.

Stella also has a solo show at the Haworth Art Gallery in Accrington. Her work can be viewed from August 16 in the Bell Corridor. And the pair will be exhibiting a mixed show at the Creative With Nature art gallery in Todmorden in September.
