Bestselling author Linda Green will be launching her latest Calder Valley-set novel with an event at The Book Case in Hebden Bridge next week.

Linda, whose previous five novels have sold almost 250,000 copies between them, will be signing copies of The Marriage Mender, talking about the book and reading extracts from it at The Book Case in Market Street on Thursday, September 11, at 7.30pm.

The Marriage Mender tells the story of Alison, a relationship counsellor, whose marriage runs into trouble when her husband’s ex Lydia reappears after sixteen years.

Linda, aged 44, says she wanted to focus on a relationship in crisis in this novel. “I’ve been with my husband for 23 years now and I actually think how couples stay together, or how they break up, is generally a lot more interesting than how they got together in the first place.

“I deliberately chose to set the first scene of the book in a relationship counselling session because I wanted to make it clear this is a book about real relationships, ones that don’t necessarily fall into the ‘happily ever after’ category.”

Linda lived in Halifax and Todmorden for 13 years and has again set her novel in the Calder Valley.

“It’s the place I know best and I like to be able to visualise my characters in their environment. Alison and her husband Chris live in Midgley and the countryside around there helped to inspire some of the scenes in the book. Hebden Bridge again plays a central role too, it’s such a great backdrop for a novel.”
