Village vegetables were on the menu at the opening of a new community cafe.

Lots of families called in at the Old Library, Parkside Road, Cornholme, for the official launch of its community cafe.

Volunteers prepared and served meat stew and a vegetarian option for those who attended, showing the tasty dishes cooked using food sourced as close to Cornholme as possible.

Oxana Poberejnaia, of the Old Library team, said: “It was a good turnout, with lots of children.”

The community cafe is run by Sara Steeles-Yates and a team of volunteers.

It aims to build links between local producers and customers and support the local economy.

Oxana said: “We are just starting but Sara has already put out a call for local food producers and suppliers to come forward.

“We intend to use supplies in the kitchen from local growers, allotment holders and local farmers. We will buy from Todmorden Market as well.

“A representative from Incredible Edible Todmorden was at the opening. We will have close co-operation with them.”

The cafe is open on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday from 10am until 2pm, as well as 4-6pm on Fridays.

The cafe team is still looking for more volunteers. For more information, contact Sara by email cafe@oldlibrary.org.
