THE new season of informal classical music concerts under the title “Antony and Friends” starts with a concert focussing on the piano this Saturday, September 3, at Central Methodist Church, Bramsche Square, Todmorden, at 7.30pm.
The concerts will, as usual, be hosted and performed by Antony Brannick with a variety of guest performers joining him in the series.
First up is local musician Geoff Kerr, a familiar sight at Todmorden Orchestra concerts where he is usually seen playing timpani. “Geoff is a fine pianist and it’s a real pleasure to work with him”, said Antony.
The concert will see both performing works from the Classical period although, as usual, the programme will not be announced until the night.
The informal nature of the concerts means that a more relaxed approach can be adopted with the performers able to talk about the music being performed, with a view to engaging the audience in the music itself.
There is no entrance charge for the concert. A retiring collection will be taken. Refreshments will be provided and all are welcome.
The following concert in the series will feature the brass quintet Minster Brass and the Todmorden Youth choir and will be on Saturday, October 15.
