Open mic nights, a supermarket bag pack and a host of other fund-raising events will help Calder Valley Youth Theatre stage their production of ‘Grease’ in November.
The amateur production rights for the hugely popular 1950s-set high school musical which took 1978 film-goers by storm have recently been released.
The youth theatre has been selected to stage the show at Halifax Playhouse in November - from November 13 to 16 - and tickets are now on sale.
To meet some of the costs of putting on such an ambitious production, the youth theatre has been fund-raising with gusto.
Hebden Royd Town Council donated £1,200 and more than £400 was raised at a nearly new sale at the town hall.
The selection process to find a ‘Danny’ and ‘Sandy’ was a major challenge and more than 50 young people auditioned for the 35 parts in the show.
Isla Harkness, who plays Sandy, has been with the youth theatre for two years after first appearing in ‘Sweet Charity’. Reece Raymond from Bradford, who plays Danny Zuko, has appeared in many amateur shows.
