Retelling the shocking story of a murderess

This modern drama explores the actions and their consequences of Ruth Ellis, the last woman in England to be sent to the gallows (in 1955) at the age of twenty eight.

Ellis was a divorcee with a young child to care for.

Through necessity she worked in the kind of nightclubs where more than a drink was on offer.

She worked her way up to become manageress of the “Little Club” where she met and soon became totally obsessed with racing car driver David Blakely.

It was an obsession that would bring her all the fame she ever dreamed of but sadly, not in a way she might ever have imagined.

“The Thrill of Love” was first performed at the New Victoria Theatre, Newcastle-under-Lyme in 2013.

Lynn Lord is director. The cast is Richard Taylor, Jo White, Amber Gilmour, Francesca Foster and Melissa Wadsworth.

The Thrill of Love is at Halifax Playhouse from June 14-18. Tickets 01422 365998.
