Will you bare (not quite) all this Fall?

It may seem early to be thinking about autumn before summer has arrived, but Todmorden Amateur Operatic and Dramatic Society (TAODS) are planning something a bit special and they need help now to achieve it.

The October play at the Hippodrome will be Calendar Girls, based on the true story of eleven WI members who pose nude for a calendar to raise money for Leukaemia Research after the death of one of their husbands.

The play has a large cast of nine women and four men covering a range of ages and TAODS is looking for confident people from around the Calderdale area to come along and audition for the roles.

There will be an initial read-through of the entire play on Thursday, May 24 (7.30pm for 8pm start). This will be followed by a casting workshop on Sunday, May 27 (2pm start, 1.30pm for those auditioning for one of the six “Calendar Girls.”)

The scene everyone remembers is the “naked” calendar shoot and director Justine Sutcliffe says: “The scene is not necessarily going to involve full nudity but anyone auditioning for one of the six ‘Calendar Girls’ needs to be prepared for a burlesque photography scene.”

She strongly recommends they speak to her either at the read-through or by phone on 07970 857258.
