With magnificent new sets, international soloists, a highly praised chorus and full orchestra, the grandeur and power of Rome is recreated in Puccini’s Tosca on Tuesday April 26 (while the heat and passion of Spain is brought to the stage in Carmen the following night).

Tosca is set against the dramatic landscape of Rome and the Napoleonic Wars - an epic tale of true love and treachery starring Vladimir Dragos as Scarpia with international sopranos Maria Tonina and Alyona Kistenyova as Tosca.

This popular opera with its tender and moving arias Recondita Armonia, Vissi d’Arte and E Lucevan le Stelle, tells the story of Floria Tosca and her doomed love for artist Mario Cavaradossi.

To celebrate this production we have teamed up with Bradford Theatres, Opera and Ballet International and its patron, internationally renowned artist Ralph Steadman to run a competition in which one lucky reader will win a limited edition and signed Ralph Steadman print worth more than £500 plus a pair of tickets to see Tosca on April 26.

Steadman is best known for his collaborations with journalist and author Hunter S. Thompson (Fear & Loathing in Las Vegas, The Curse of Lono). Working for Rolling Stone Magazine they created the notion of Gonzo where the story for an article becomes more about the covering of the subject than the subject itself.

Starting in the 1950s, Steadman’s career has included being resident artist for wine merchants Oddbins, illustrator to Will Self’s Independent column, Pshycogeography and theatre and set designs for the Royal Opera House’s “The Crucible”. He has been a patron of Opera and Ballet International for many years. Many of his stunning opera illustrations were created for Ellen Kent or for Harry Enfield’s Guide to Opera in the 1990s. The beautiful Eagle and Hawk print first prize is A2 in size and is printed on Museum Quality Smooth Rag – the paper which he draws his originals on.
