Tickets have gone on sale for the 2014 Hebden Bridge Burlesque Festival, which will be held at venues throughout the upper Calder Valley.
Building on the success of the inaugural event, next year’s festival will include shows staged at locations in Hebden Bridge, Todmorden and Mytholmroyd.
Following a row over use of Hebden Bridge Picture House for a burlesque event, organisers Heidi Waddington and Lizzy Goodman have decided to hold the 2014 festival’s main gala show at Todmorden Hippodrome.
On Saturday, May 3, some of the biggest names in burlesque and alternative cabaret will descend on the town’s historic theatre as it hosts the biggest show of the four-day festival.
Heidi, whose stage name is Heidi Bang Tidy, said: “The team at Todmorden Hippodrome have been amazing – they have made us feel so welcome and they are as excited about the show as we are.”
Lizzy, aka Lady Wildflower, said: “That’s so important to us.
“We want to work with like-minded people who understand burlesque and have respect for our performers.
“The Hippodrome is such a beautiful venue – the chandeliers, velvet curtains and opulence are the perfect setting for our gala show.”
Heidi explained that the show will be like a “post-watershed Royal Variety Performance”.
She said: “The gala show is a celebration of the diversity of burlesque as an art form. It’s high end glamour with hilarious physical comedy and a large side order of naughtiness.
“People will be talking about this show for a long, long time.”
Lizzy said: “What some people don’t realise is that not all burlesque performers are strip tease artistes.
“The gala show is a genuine variety show and will showcase some of the finest strip teasers, physical performers, musicians and speciality acts from the world of burlesque.”
