A Promises Auction organised by Mayor of Todmorden Coun Margareta Holmstedt will take place at Todmorden Town Hall on Friday April 1 at 7.30pm. Auctioneer Ian Peace, of Calder Valley Auctioneers, will run the event which aims to raise funds for the Young People’s Caravan Project in Todmorden. A fun quiz will be held at Walsden Cricket Club on Friday April 1 to raise funds for the Todmorden branch of Cancer Research UK. Participants are asked to arrive at 7.30pm for an 8pm start. Incredible Edible Todmorden’s next community course on the Big Blue Bus will be held on Tuesday April 5. Nature walks around Todmorden for parents/carers and children under five are held on Mondays and Fridays. The hour-long circular walks through Centre Vale Park and the woods, plus nature activities, set off from the children’s playground in the park at 11am. Squeeze songwriter Chris Difford returns to the Trades Club tonight (Thursday) with Dorie Jackson and Boo Hewerdine. On Monday April 4, Ian McMillan headlines the first True Stories Told Live event. Also telling their stories will be event founder David Hepworth, singer songwriter David Ford and Mal Campbell. Dave Boardman will be compere for the evening. Todmorden composer and musician Daniel Bath will be appearing at the Little Theatre on Friday April 1 at 7.30pm. Sharon King and her trio The Reckless Angels will perform at the Stubbing Wharf on Saturday April 2 at 9pm. The free gig is part of a seven-day national tour which follows a sell-out show at the Edinburgh Fringe last year.

The Video Arts Festival 1: From Africa show takes place at Hope Baptist Church on Tuesday April 5 from 7pm to 8.30pm. The one-hour programme, which will be followed by a discussion, is suitable for over 18s. There will also be a display of international video works from African artists. Free admission.

The Mayor and Mayoress of Hebden Royd’s Gala Concert will be held at the Picture House on Wednesday April 6 at 7.30pm. Performers include Hebden Bridge Brass Band, Hebden Bridge Junior Band, Calder Valley Youth Theatre, Calder Valley Voices and singer Zoe Cox. Tickets priced £10 (concessions £8) are available from the tourist information centre, Hebden Bridge Town Hall and the Picture House. All proceeds will go to Hebden Bridge Young Carers.


The next in a series of Christian Aid lunches will be held at Mytholmroyd Methodist Church on Sunday April 3 from noon. There will also be organ music during the day. Donations are requested and all proceeds will go to the charity.

Calderdale Senior Citizens Orchestra will give a concert at the church hall, on Church Street, on Tuesday April 5 at 2pm. Tickets priced £3 include tea, biscuits and a raffle.
