ORGANISERS have declared the 12 Days of Todmas a success as it boosted the town’s economy during the festive season.
Todmorden Business Association said the 40 events which took place around the town in the run-up to Christmas encouraged more people to spend money in Todmorden rather than doing their shopping elsewhere.
The business association hopes to further showcase what the town has to offer at the annual Made in Tod exhibition, which will be held at Todmorden Town Hall on March 12 and 13.
Nicki Hewson-Betts, administrator for the business association, said: “We have had some really positive feedback. People have taken part in the events who have never taken part in business association events before, which was nice.
“There were lots and lots of things that put people in the right spirit.”
Months of planning from the business association and various other groups went into putting it together.
“Forty events is no mean feat in a town of our size,” Nicki said. “It did take a lot of organising, it was hard work at times but it felt worthwhile when walking around and seeing the market, the craft fair and other events.
“If we are keeping people in town with events, they are going to spend money and re-invest in Todmorden rather than going elsewhere.
“Thanks to everybody who helped out, the organisations who sponsored events and the people of Todmorden who attended the events we organised.”
The 12 Days of Todmas has proved so popular that other organisations including South Ribble Council have been in touch with the business association to ask for advice on staging similar events.
“Hopefully the things that we do will have a positive effect not just on Todmorden but other places too in the future,” Nicki said.
A meeting will be held in the near future to discuss the possibility of holding the 12 Days of Todmas again next Christmas.
She encouraged any businesses who would like to book a stall for the Made in Tod exhibition to contact her on 07971 237478 or email email@example.com.
