Aim is £5,000 practice boost - with help

volunteers at a cricket club are aiming to raise £5,000 for a new practice area they say will be the best in the Calder Valley.

Walsden Cricket Club is also linking up with businesses in the community to achieve their goal, which will benefit all playing members including an expanding junior section, said Matt Dawson, of the Scott Street club.

“The volunteer coaches at Walsden make the best of the current facilities but it will be great to give all the children a greater opportunity to develop once the three lane net system is completed.

“From fundraising to building, the whole project will be done voluntarily. Local businesses have backed the project with sponsorship and raffle prize donations,” he said.

Physio & Therapies, Lake Garage, Angela Viney Conveyencing, Walsden Post Office, C & G Autos, Excel Fire Protection, Walsden Plumbing and Heating Services, Insight Health and Inspired Sports Coaching have all backed the Supporting a Sporting Community project and more than £1500 has already been raised, said Matt.

“Walsden CC are to hold an Easter Fair in April which will be open to the public, and this, along with the raffle and sponsorship from further local businesses, would allow us to get the project underway by September and ready for the 2012 season,” he said.
