The Hebden Bridge Flood Recovery Art Auction far exceeded what organisers thought it would make - it turned out to be between £12,000 and £13,000!
Artists from around the world submitted pieces for the auction following an appeal by Hebden Bridge artist Caroline Reed and it was fascinating to watch as it unfolded at Hebden Bridge Trades Club.
As auctioneer, Ian Peace, of Calder Valley Auctioneers, pointed out, people truly were getting a bargain; if it had been sold at a gallery it would also include their mark up price, so people were leaving very happy with their purchases.
All the money raised will go to help the businesses and artists who were directly flooded on Boxing Day.
Due to how many pieces were received, not all could be displayed at the event, so an exhibition along with a silent auction at Creative with Nature’ at Burnley Road, Todmorden, in April will carry on with the fundraising. There will be an exhibition Launch Party from 6.30 to 9pm on April 29 andthe gallery will be open 10am till 5pm each day until the exhibition closes at 5pm on Saturday, May 7.”
A delighted Caroline said: “The auction exceeded my expectations. Thank you to the amazing artists that were kind enough to donate fantastic work.”
