AGE Concern is calling for knitters to “knit one, purl one” as part of a national campaign.
The Big Knit 2011 is now underway and organisers have set a target of 650,000 little woolly hats to sit on Innocent smoothie bottles. For each be-hatted smoothie sold, Innocent will give 25p to Age UK’s Spread the Warmth scheme, helping to fund national and local winter projects.
Age Concern Todmorden has been tasked with knitting 8,000 hats by September 30 and needs the help of people of all ages to help make this a reality.
Catherine Rosborough, of Age Concern Todmorden, said: “Funds raised locally will go a long way towards supporting various local winter projects such as lunch clubs and information and advice. We are calling on knitters to help us reach our target of 8,000 hats for this year’s Big Knit.
“Remember, every extra hat means more money for older people in the community so start early and help us hit our target.”
Knitters can contact Age Concern Todmorden to get a simple hat pattern.
Alternatively, they can attend the next Age Concern knit and natter group meeting at Central Methodist Church on Wednesday, August 27, from 1.30pm until 3pm. For more information, call Age Concern Todmorden on 01706 817926.
