Chess: Bridge dominant

Hebden Bridge Chess Club's A and B teams were both in action at the Trades Club, in the first division of the Calderdale Chess League, on Monday.

The A team faced Brighouse, a club with a great history in the league, but which is undergoing some difficulties at the moment, and the result, a 4/ win for Hebden Bridge A, reflected the settled nature of the home side, and their current good form.

Results: D. Wedge , R. Broadbent ; A. Wright 1, B. Bendall 0; D. Shapland 1, P. Whitehouse 0; N. Sykes 1, R. Grandage 0; M. Wedge-Roberts 1, N. Hudson 0.

The B team were hoping for a win against Belgrave but old campaigners Angel Gonzalez and Malcolm Corbett saw the visitors through to a draw.

Results: M. Parsons 1, G. Farrar 0; A. Leatherbarrow , L. Johnson ; M. Stollery 0, M. Corbett 1; T. Sullivan 1, M. Barnett 0; S. Priest 0, A. Gonzalez 1.

Next Monday, November 2, Hebden Bridge hosts the first round of the Calderdale Individual Chess Championship for 2009/10.

All players in Calderdale welcome to enter, whether a member of a club or not, and there are prizes at all levels.
