Detectives are now appealing for witnesses who saw a black BMW at Arches Street, where a stolen silver BMW 520D model, registration DV63 RMO, had been abandoned.

The car had been involved in a robbery of a jewellers on Corn Market, Halifax at 4.51pm on Monday January 5.

The black car with a registration AK57 LSU was approached by police officers and then sped away from the scene at around 8pm.

A police pursuit followed involving the police helicopter and the police dog team and saw the BMW drive at speed on the opposite side of the road.

The car then stopped in Willow Dene Avenue in Sowerby Bridge where two males jumped from the car and escaped on foot.

Earlier in the day three men had entered the jewellers store and stole a number of watches. They had baseball bats and sledge-hammers on them.
