A teenage motorist who was over the drink-drive limit when he crashed into a bus shelter and a tree killing his 18-year-old passenger is facing a custodial sentence.
Bradford Crown Court heard today (Wednesday) that Kyle Denneny was only 17 when the Peugeot 106 he was driving crashed in the early hours of April 4 last year.
The collision on Burnley Road, Todmorden, resulted in the death of former Todmorden High School student Callum Regan Brown and today Denneny pleaded guilty to causing the trainee barber’s death by careless driving while over the prescribed limit.
The teenager also admitted being uninsured at the time of the fatal collision.
Denneny, now 18, of Orchan Road, Todmorden, will be sentenced on May 7, but Judge Peter Benson told him that a significant period of custody was inevitable in the circumstances of the case.
The judge imposed a driving ban on Denneny and the teenager was granted bail until his sentence hearing.
