Cycle scheme given a boost

A CYCLING scheme run at Todmorden Fire Station will receive a boost thanks to an £18,000 bequest from a Calderdale resident.

Money left to West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service and the police by Mary Eastwood, of Sowerby Bridge, will be spent on projects in Calderdale including Bikeability, a cycling proficiency scheme run in conjunction with Calderdale Council which will offer free cycle training to around 1,500 young people.

Calder ward councillor David O’Neill, who is also a member of the fire authority, was delighted with the decision to spend the money for the benefit of Calderdale people.

“Fire officers have suggested a number of projects, particularly around road and fire safety, which can now enjoy funding over the next three years,” he said.
