Dead woman found in Shelf named - Man to appear in court

A woman who was found dead in Shelf on Saturday has been named by police.

The body of Marie Johnston aged 44 was found at a bungalow at Peakstones Farm, in Soaper Lane at 8.44pm on April 2.

Forensics were at the property throughout Sunday but later left the scene.

A sole policeman stood guarding the small, white-coloured property, throughout the evening which stood in front of a kennels and cattery centre.

A post mortem has been carried out but was inconclusive.

A 34-year-old man who was arrested in connection with the incident has been charged with grievous bodily harm and sexual assault.

Matthew Dean of Soaper Lane will appear at Calderdale Magistrates today (Wednesday).

Enquiries into the incident remain ongoing.
