Lincoln was the destination for Todmorden U3A Let’s Go group’s recent visit.
In all 48 members travelled to the wonderful cathedral city where many joined a service for local schoolchildren .Children danced, sang and played handbells. The magnificent cathedral, once rebuilt following a fire and an earthquake, was bathed in sunlight, heightening the splendour of its architecture and delicate wood and stone carving.
The adjacent castle, once a prison, holds a copy of the Magna Carta, of which orifinally about 40 copies were made - only four remain. Members admired the neat handwriting of the scribes and were told the document was read out to them as they wrote, quill pens dipped in ink. The Magna Carta is still the basis for many of our laws.
Even the weather gods looked favourably on the trip - it only started raining when members boarded the coach for the homeward trip.
