POLICE in Todmorden are urging residents to be on their guard against scammers sending bogus lottery letters.
Officers believe the letter, which appears to be from Spain and claims that the receiver could be entitled to a large sum of money left in a will, is part of a scam. They have advised residents not to reply to it or send any personal details, especially information relating to bank accounts.
PCSO Charlotte Stead, of the Upper Valley Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: “I would advise members of the public receiving any such letter to treat it with suspicion and not to respond to it. It is merely an attempt to get people to send money.
“If something sounds too good to be true, the chances are it probably is.”
Anyone who receives the letter is asked to contact PCSO Charlotte Stead at Todmorden Police Station on 01706 817237 or 0845 6060606 and place the letter to one side. Alternatively, email PCSO Stead on firstname.lastname@example.org
