THOUSANDS of plastic ducks will swim along the River Calder this weekend at one of Todmorden’s most popular events.
The annual duck race, organised by Todmorden Lions, will take place on Sunday, May 1, starting at 2pm.
Mayor of Todmorden Coun Margareta Holmstedt will push the button to lower the ducks into the water by the Stansfield Road bridge for the half-a-mile journey to Hallroyd Flats.
There will be prizes of £150, £75 and £50 for the first, second and third placed ducks, with the last one to cross the line receiving £25.
Ducks are on sale priced 50p each. They can be bought on Todmorden Market in advance, or on race day from the starting point by Central Garage.
Funds raised by the event will be donated to local charities.
