DUCKS are preparing for their annual quacky races along the River Calder.

The Duck Race, organised by Todmorden Lions Club, will be held on Sunday May 6, starting at 2pm from Stansfield Road.

Lions are encouraging people to enter the race by buying ducks, which are on sale from club members at their stall on Todmorden Market on Thursday, Friday and Saturday mornings, priced 50p each.

“You can even choose your own duck,” said Lion Rod Wainwright.

“It’s been steady business so far, We could always do with more.”

Mayor of Todmorden Coun Richard White will start the race, plunging the ducks into the river.

The owner of the first duck home will receive a £150 prize. There are also prizes for the second, third and last ducks across the line.

Money raised from the race will go to Lions charities.
