A nursery is aiming to maintain its excellent standards after Ofsted judged it to be outstanding in all areas.
Todmorden Children’s Centre has received a glowing report from the education watchdog after inspectors visited the nursery, based at Todmorden Community College on Burnley Road, in August.
The inspection report highlighted the excellent progress that children make in their learning and the exceptional standard of care provided by all staff.
The report said: “Staff in the nursery show an exceptional commitment to provide learning experiences tailored to children’s needs and support this with observation, assessment and planning that is of a high quality.
“Children make excellent progress in their learning.
“The educational programmes have depth and breadth and are precisely matched to children’s ages, stages and resulting needs.
“All children are extremely well-prepared for their next steps in learning.
“Parents have excellent opportinites to contribute to their children’s learning.”
Inspectors said the nursery places a very high priority on the safety of children and parents.
“Children are very confident and happy in the nursery because staff are adept at developing children’s confidence and independence skills,” the report said.
“The setting operates a key person system in order to support children’s emotional welfare and key persons show very strong knowledge of children, their routines and their preferences.
“Key persons can then provide excellent support for children’s emotional well-being, which consequently enhances children’s learning
“In all areas of the nursery there is a great emphasis on children developing a sense of responsibility and independence.
“Children’s behaviour is excellent and they use resources safely, showing a high regard for their own safety and that of others.
“The nursery has a highly skilled and motivated staff team to maintain excellent care and learning for children.”
Julie Ratcliffe, manage of Todmorden Children’s Centre, said everybody at the nursery is pleased with the report.
“We are all delighted to receive an outstanding grade for our nursery provision,” she said.
“This is a huge achievement, and is a credit to all our children, parents, staff and partners. Now we will have to work hard to maintain this excellent result.”
Coun Megan Swift, Calderdale Council’s cabinet member for children and young people’s services, said: “It’s fantastic news that Todmorden Children’s Centre has received an outstanding Ofsted rating.
“The hard work of the staff has really paid off, and the result reflects the continuous improvement taking place in children’s centres and schools across Calderdale.”
