THE Christmas story came to life as children performed traditional and more contemporary nativity plays in the run-up to the end of term.

Parents, family and friends gathered at primary schools throughout the upper Calder Valley as youngsters took to the stage.

There was not a dry eye in the house at The Ark Nursery, Mytholmroyd, as children sang their hearts out in a carol concert and nativity.

Nursery owner Jo Brock said: “Christmas is a magical time for all the children and we love to see them having fun.”

At Colden School, all the pupils took part in the Christmas festivities and the performances proved so popular that they attracted record attendances in the school hall.

Headteacher Tony Greenwood said: “We had two concerts and both were packed out.”

The performances were recorded and DVDs of the concerts were made available for parents and families as ideal Christmas presents.

There were also packed houses at Ferney Lee School, Todmorden, for its nursery and reception class production of “The Sleepy Shepherd”. Headteacher Helen Hannah said: “I’m so proud of all the young performers who after only two weeks of rehearsing did a terrific job.”

She thanked the staff for helping to make it a success.
