Efit of owner in connection with dog attack on girl, 5

Police have released an Efit of man they want to speak to in connection with a dog attack where a five-year-old girl received serious, potentially life-altering, injuries when she was bitten on the face by a dog at the Handmade Parade event in Hebden Bridge.

She was waiting in line at a food stall at the event in Calder Holmes Park between 2.50pm-3pm on Sunday June 26 when a dog, believed to be a Staffordshire bull terrier, jumped up, biting her face and leg.

The dog was on a lead at the time of the incident and is described as brindle and white coloured. O

PCSO Gareth Helliwell, of Valley North Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: “The five-year-old girl involved in this incident needed reconstructive surgery to an eyelid following this attack and has suffered potentially irreparable damage to her lower tear duct.

“Two men with the dog have apparently left the area without checking on the girl’s welfare or leaving any details. We need to identify these two men and would urge anyone with information about who they are, or indeed the men themselves, to come forwards.

“Anyone with information is asked to call Valley North NPT via 101 or independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
