Food hub to launch What’s Local scheme

Are you hungry for local, seasonal food and want to support local producers, but don’t know where to buy their produce?

This week Calder Food Hub is launching its exciting new “What’s Local?” scheme, where it will be encouraging local shops, market stalls, cafes, pubs and restaurants to display one of their local food blackboards in order to advertise what local produce they are selling or cooking with that week.

“We are wanting to encourage local businesses to really celebrate local produce and support the wealth of producers we have in our area,” said Kath Baker, of Calder Food Hub.

“I hope to see every cafe in town doing at least one dish every week that uses local ingredients.”

Calder Food Hub defines local food as being either grown, reared or having the main ingredients of the product sourced from within a 30-mile radius of Hebden Bridge.

“We will be supporting local businesses in achieving this by putting them in contact with local producers,” said Kath.

The scheme is supported by the National Lottery’s Local Food Programme and is free for any businesses in the area to join. For more information, call 01422 846540 or visit
