As Todmorden Market gears up for its busy Christmas period, it has been given a boost by the town’s biggest employer, engineers Weir.
Weir Minerals are part of a multi-national group of companies but they have showed support for the local business economy with its voucher scheme.
The company approached Todmorden Market Association with an idea for their scheme which the traders were very pleased to accept.
Each year Weir give their epmloyees a bonus in the form of vouchers and they wanted some of that voucher money to be spent in the market, boosing the local economy, said a TMA spokesman.
Hence, some of the vouchers issued are for use on the market, and traders thank Weir for the company’s generous gesture.
The spokesperson said: “It is great that Weir is supporting the market, inside and out. They are fantastic people and it shows their commitment to the town.”
In the meantime, there is plenty going on at the market in the week leading up to Christmas.
The spokesman said: “Come and see what we have to offer and see us all dressed up in our Christmassy sweaters and fancy dress!
“Also, you can listen to Todmorden Community Band on Saturday, December 20, and Christmas Eve - Wednesday, December 24 - from 10am to noon each day.
“We forward to a long and successful partnership of this fantastic offer from Weir Minerals. We believe that this is a great asset to the whole community of Todmorden and a fantastic boost for our market. So a huge thank you to all at “Weir” for doing all the leg work and putting this scheme together for us.
“We wish them and indeed everyone a very merry Christmas and a happy and prosperous New Year.”
